El Paso Bike Month 2013

As our amazing month of biking comes to an end, I wanted to share a few (a lot) of the images of this super fun month of biking.  This whole project came together with the hard work of a lot of people, but most importantly the participation of so many of you that decided to join us in this biking adventure.

Bike month demonstrates that El Paso is ready to become a unified cycling community, one that gets the attention and respect that it deserves.   We’ve had great numbers of cyclist participate in our activities, and the common theme is for more rides, more activities, or more opportunities to ride for recreation and fun.

We all came into this project with the idea of making a super fun month of cycling, making new friends and building a sense of cycling community.  I look back at all of these images and it makes me believe that we are on our way to accomplish our original goal.

We had so many different rides, and they were all really fun in their own way.  It was fun to see new faces and people that hadn’t ridden bikes in years.  We had long rides, short rides, family rides, beer hopping rides, midnight rides, Juarez rides, zombie rides, canyon rides, movie rides, park rides, and they were all fun and exciting.   Our binational ride to our amazing sister city, Juarez, was just epic.   It will be the stuff of cycling legends.

We as a cycling community need to stand together and continue to ride and send the message that we exist.   We need to advocate for bike lines, safer streets, streets that are paved and in good condition, and an overall sense that we are to be respected every time we get on our bikes.  Again, our unity as a community will help facilitate this.

Bike month does not stop here. We will definitely continue to build up on this great sense of community. We will continue to ride and organize events.  We want to thank every single rider that joined us, and we want to encourage everyone to continue riding and having fun.  Cycling is such a beautiful form of exercise, community and engagement.  We need to continue to promote it and encourage everyone around us to become part of this.  Let’s ride.
